How Breath U works — and why breathwork and cold exposure are worth your time.
Breathing rounds
A session is built from rounds. You choose how many, how many breaths per round, and the pace. A short countdown settles you in — then the ring takes over.
- Deep breaths. The ring around the orb fills as you breathe in and empties as you let go, with IN and OUT cues moving in the same rhythm. Gentle gongs mark every transition, so you can close your eyes whenever you want.
- Breathe out and hold. After the last breath you exhale and hold. The timer counts up — there is no target, your body sets the pace. Calm on-screen messages keep you company during longer holds, and a double tap ends the hold whenever you're ready.
- Recovery breath. One deep breath in, held briefly, then let go. A short rest, and the next round begins.
Cold exposure
Choose a duration. An optional preparation countdown lets you settle; during the cold, the ring slowly builds around the orb. When it closes, a deep double gong tells you you're done — no need to watch the clock. Build up gradually: consistency beats duration.
Why breathe deliberately?
"Take a deep breath" is old advice for a good reason. Slow, deliberate breathing is one of the few levers that directly reaches your nervous system — and it's available anywhere, at any moment.
- Energy and focus. Most of us default to shallow chest breathing. Deep, diaphragmatic breaths use the full lungs, improve oxygen exchange and leave you relaxed yet alert instead of tired and scattered.
- A calmer heart. Slow exhalations activate the body's rest-and-digest response, easing heart rate and supporting healthy circulation — the opposite of the fight-or-flight state that shallow breathing feeds.
- Stronger breathing muscles. Deliberate practice works the diaphragm and the deeper parts of the lungs, supporting airflow and respiratory strength over time.
- Less anxious, more present. Slow breathing signals safety to the nervous system. Practised regularly, it becomes a reliable way to interrupt spiralling stress — during a commute, before a meeting, or at the end of the day.
